Lost a Crown or Filling on the Weekend in Frisco? Here’s Your Step-by-Step Plan

It’s almost always a Friday night or a Saturday morning. Here’s what to do about it.
What should I do the moment it happens?
Find the crown or filling piece if you can, and keep it. Don’t throw it away. Rinse your mouth gently with warm water and check the exposed tooth for sharp edges. If it’s a crown, set it somewhere safe rather than trying to hold it in your mouth.
Should I try to glue it back in myself?
No. Super glue and household adhesives aren’t safe in the mouth, and they can damage the tooth further, which makes it harder to properly recement later. If you want a short-term fix, a pharmacy temporary dental cement is a safer option than nothing. It’s still not a substitute for a dental visit.
Is this a real emergency, or can it wait?

What happens at the appointment?
Often we can recement the same crown if it’s undamaged, or place a new filling in a single visit. If the crown is cracked, or the tooth underneath has changed shape, you may need a replacement. Either way, the visit protects the tooth from further damage.
What if it happens on a Saturday?
We’re open Saturdays 9AM to 7PM and take walk-ins. A weekend crown emergency doesn’t have to mean sitting in discomfort until Monday.
Can I prevent this from happening again?
Two things help most: skip very sticky or hard foods on that tooth, and don’t skip your regular checkups. A loosening crown usually gives some warning before it comes off entirely, and a checkup is where that gets caught.

Phenomenal crew and experience! I scheduled an emergency visit for my daughter due to gum swelling. Upon arrival, we were met with utmost care and attention which led to one of the best dental visits we’ve ever had. After x-rays and careful inspection we learned that her mollars were coming in. What began as a hurried emergency visit brought us our new family dentist. Couldn’t recommend more.

Dr. Ajay and his team get a Gold Star for bedside manners. As someone with a lot of anxiety when it comes to Dental procedures, they made sure i was comfortable before we started. From X rays to exams, they made sure they checked with me every step of the way to make sure i was comfortable.

Can I eat normally if my crown fell out?
Chew on the other side, and avoid very hot, cold, or sticky foods until you’re seen.
Will my crown be reused or do I need a new one?
If it’s intact and the tooth underneath hasn’t changed shape, we can often recement the same one.
How long can I wait before seeing a dentist?
A few days is fine if there’s no pain. Don’t wait past a week. The exposed tooth is more vulnerable to decay the longer it sits uncovered.
Is it dangerous if I accidentally swallowed the crown?
Rarely. Crowns typically pass through the digestive system without issue. Call us anyway so we can plan your next step.
