Why does lying down make a toothache worse?
Standing or sitting, blood pools normally through your body. Lie flat and blood flow and pressure to your head increase, including inside an already inflamed tooth or gum. The throbbing gets louder. Distraction disappears too. During the day you’re busy. At night, the pain is the only thing left in the room.
What’s actually causing the pain?
A few usual suspects: a cavity that’s reached the nerve, a cracked tooth, an infected or abscessed tooth, or inflamed gums. Sinus pressure from allergies can also mimic upper-tooth pain, which comes up often during North Texas allergy season.
What can I do right now to get relief tonight?
Take an over-the-counter pain reliever as directed on the label. Prop your head up with an extra pillow to ease the blood flow to the area. Rinse with warm salt water. Skip anything very hot, cold, or sugary before bed. A cold compress on the outside of your cheek helps too, in short intervals.
When is nighttime tooth pain an emergency?

Will home remedies actually fix the problem?
No. They manage pain for a night. They don’t touch the cause. If the pain keeps coming back at night, that pattern means the underlying problem is progressing, and it needs a dentist, not a better home remedy.

Phenomenal crew and experience! I scheduled an emergency visit for my daughter due to gum swelling. Upon arrival, we were met with utmost care and attention which led to one of the best dental visits we’ve ever had. After x-rays and careful inspection we learned that her mollars were coming in. What began as a hurried emergency visit brought us our new family dentist. Couldn’t recommend more.

Dr. Ajay and his team get a Gold Star for bedside manners. As someone with a lot of anxiety when it comes to Dental procedures, they made sure i was comfortable before we started. From X rays to exams, they made sure they checked with me every step of the way to make sure i was comfortable.
